Pizzeria da Laurais where pizza, pasta, and good drinks bring people together to connect and celebrate. In this spirit, we’re inviting our members to a summer Member Meetup just steps away from the Downtown Berkeley BART. We'll enjoy a classic pizzeria experience where the humble pie is elevated with perfectly mixed cocktails and a killer women-led wine list.
Chef/Owner Laura Meyer will be on hand to tell us her story, which started in Hayward at Pyzano’s Pizza as a 17-year-old. As a pizzaiola, Chef Laura has won many awards both in the States and in Italy. She’s been recognized by the S.F. Chronicle, Eater, Zagat, and Forbes. After opening the successful pop-up Focaccia da Laura during the pandemic, Chef Laura opened Pizzeria da Laura on an iconic corner of Shattuck Square in Berkeley, where she showcases her mastery of dough fermentation through multiple pizza styles ranging from New York to Sicilian, Detroit to Grandma style.
After we purchase our beverage of choice at the bar downstairs, we’ll head up to the mezzanine to visit with other Dames in a casual setting. At 5:00 Laura will present us with a tasting of each of her four pizza styles (including meatless options). She’ll tell us about launching her businesses during the pandemic, the international pizza competitions she’s entered and won, the new Mercatino that she recently opened next door, and the new national non-profit organization she recently started for women pizza makers—and their exciting upcoming conference.
Please register to reserve your place by Sunday, July 13th at 12:00pm, and plan to cover your own food and drink costs at the event. The pizza tasting will be about $15 per person, payable at the event. Of course, attendees are welcome to stay after the MeetUp to enjoy Laura’s inventive pasta dishes and explore the rest of the menu. For a map and directions, click here.
